Edu Lyra

Founder and CEO of Gerando Falcões

Edu Lyra lived his childhood inside a shack in a favela in Guarulhos, São Paulo. His father joined the organized crime and went to jail. However, his mother, Maria Gorete, inspired him to dream, saying: ‘Son, it doesn’t matter where you come from, what matters is where you are heading to’. This was enough for Edu to become the author of the book Jovens Falcões (Young Hawks) and the founder of Gerando Falcões Institute. The NGO, with more than 20 social programs, serves thousands of families in the community through sports and cultural education, professional training and income generation.

Because of his work, Edu was selected by the World Economic Forum, as one of the 15 young Brazilians who can change the world, becoming part of the Global Shapers community. He was nominated by Forbes as one of the 30 most influential young people in Brazil and awarded the Young Entrepreneur of 2014 prize by LIDE. Eduardo Lyra has also had the honor of conducting the Olympic torch during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
